Instructors

S.M.A. Karate has several black belt instructors to suite your needs. All of our instructors are fully registered and certified by Seiwa Kai Canada, and the JKF Goju Kai Federation.


Owner/Chief Instructor of Karate and Kobudo
Shihan Robert Patry has 30 years experience and currently holds a 6th degree black belt and Renshi title in Shotokan Ryu Karate, a 5th degree black belt and Renshi title in traditional Japanese Goju Ryu and has trained in various styles of martial arts including Northern Shaolin, JuJutsu, Kickboxing, and Kobudo Weaponry to name a few.

Shihan Patry is currently training under 8th dan Kyoshi-Daihyo Isao Yabunaka from Ingersoll Ontario through Seiwa Kai Canada. Shihan Patry is also the head instructor/Coach of the 2006,2010 World Kobudo Federation World Karate Champions, and the 2009-2011 National Karate Champions from Kingston through Karate Canada.

Owner/Instructor & Kickboxing Coach
Shidoin Michelle Patry currently holds a 3rd degree black belt and shidoin title in traditional Japanese Goju-Ryu with Seiwa Kai Canada, as well as a 3rd degree black belt in Shotokan Karate with World Kobudo Federation, and training in many other styles including Kickboxing, Jujutsu, and Kobudo weaponry.

Shidoin Patry is the Head Instructor for all of our Women's Programs here at the school as well as the 2006 World Kobudo World Champion for Kata and Kumite. Shidoin is also the Assistant Coach/Personal Trainer of the 2010 World Kobudo Federation World Karate Champions, and the 2009-2011 National Karate Champions from Kingston through Karate Canada.She is also the lead Certified Personal Trainer our our school through Can-Fit Pro.

(Sandan-Goju Ryu) Shodan - Shotokan Instructor
Shidoin Daniel Birt is a very traditional instructor. He takes not only his own training, but his students training, very seriously. Sensei Daniel is an exemplary display of martial spirit in modern day martial arts. Sensei Daniel recently recieved a Shodan from the Japanese Karate Federation Goju-kai while in Japan. Sensei Daniel was awarded second place in Team Kata at the 2009 Candian National Karate Championships in Calgary Alberta.2010 National Kumite Athlete.

Sensei Ena Drakich recieved her first degree black belt in 2008. Sensei Ena is a wonderful kids instructor, she demonstrates a great balance between fun and discipline.

Sensei Meagan is one of our youngest instructors, yet she has a huge wealth of experience to guide her. Her hard as nails, never quit attitude has made her into one of the finest young martial artists in Kingston. She is the Gold Medalist for Team Canada at the World Kobudo World Championships in Levis,Quebec.

Justin Kellerman-Thompson, one of our 2nd degree black belts. He has a keen sense of movement that translates into precise Kata & Kumite performance.Justin is the Bronze Medalist in Canada for Team Kata at the 2010 National Karate Championships that were held in Toronto,Ontario. He is the 2010 Gold Medalist for Team Canada at the World Championships that were held in Levis,Quebec. He is also the Bronze Medalist for Kumite at the 2011 National Karate Championships the were held in Montreal,Quebec.

Shodan Shotokan
Senpai Phil is an excellent assistant instructor,He is very knowledgable in the field of Kata. His ability to Break apart and examine every group of movements in each Kata make him an asset to every class.

Sensei Mikaela Henderson is an excellent instructor. Her forward thinking aswell as her eye for detail has helped enable her to help other students successfully. Im very sure bright things are in her future. She is the 2010 Gold Medalist for Team Canada at the World Kobudo World Championships in Levis, Quebec.

Cosme-Aidan Sommier is a 2nd degree and has shown an indepth knowledge of the technical portion of his Karate training. Sempai Sommier is also one of our bilingual assistant instructors. Cosme-Aidan placed 3rd in Canada for Team Kata at the 2010 National Karate Championships that were held in Toronto,Ontario.
